How to Be

Learn How to Be Like a Wellesley Student!

October 28, 2018 by Editor-in-Chief in Campus Life

by Alicia Margarita Olivo '20

  1. Do you turn your trauma into a lesson for your oppressors?

  2. Do you erase transgender people and their bodies on campus?

  3. Do you yell “sisterhood” proudly while staring your openly trans classmates in the eyes?

  4. Do you infantilize the ignorant POC? Do you have a white savior vibe?

  5. Do you ignore the fact that POC can participate in upholding racist institutions? Do you claim to escape the “white/POC” dichotomy?

  6. Do you ignore and cover up the fact that there are rapists and abusers walking on campus right this second?

  7. Do you exoticize poverty? Do you brag about how you’re great at thrifting when your thousand-dollar bank account is backing you?

  8. Are you quiet? Are you nonviolent? Are you docile?

If so, congratulations! You’re well on your way to being the perfect student Wellesley College wants you to be.
